Care-free and car-free...

On glorious days like Saturday, Drew and I might have been tempted to drive out of the city to go on a hike.

This is why we all have to drive less.

While pictures like this one break my heart, I feel like we should be inundated by these right now: this is the price we pay for our addiction to oil.

5 surprising benefits to not driving a car...

Thanks to taking public transportation to work, I've had plenty of time to daydream and think about some wonderful things that have happened to me because I've been on foot or bicycle in my neighbo

After binge-driving this weekend, our car is parked & will remain so for a week!

Yesterday we put about 250 miles on our car doing a trip to Pinnacles National Monument, a place we've been wanting to hike for a long time.

It was inevitable...

Well, I'm in Charlotte, North Carolina and have had to do some driving (it's pretty hard not to here).

I love my friends & fam - so supportive!

I just broke the $200 mark with my fundraising goal and am just in awe at how supportive people have been of what I'm trying to do and the mission of TransForm to improve public transporta

I have achieved car-free nirvana.

Today was Sunday Streets in San Francisco.  They shut down about a mile of streets in the Mission, a

Still at zero miles on Day 5! Streets shut down to cars on Sunday in San Francisco!

I've officially logged 120 miles so far this week... NOT in a car.  I've got a friend flying in tomorrow night from Thailand and he's got a whole lot of luggage...

She's got a ticket to ride...

My mileage in a car on Day 1 of the Challenge?  ZERO!

I'm proud to say that I've logged 30 miles today... NOT in a car.

Actually, I think it will be as impressive at the end of the Challenge how many miles I've traveled NOT in a car as IN one! Anyway, here's me with my tickets to ride BART and MUNI...

Will I be binge driving before June 1?

I was just thinking about how right before June 1 it would be tempting to go on a HUGE grocery shopping trip with the car.

But... I'm going to try not to be a pre-June 1 binge driver and instead live my life the same as usual... minus the whole car thing as much as possible.

Still figuring out my mileage goal!

I'm having a hard time determining what I think I can get my mileage down to in June.  Partly because I'm going to a wedding in a place that I have to drive to, plus I might be taking another trip that would definitely involve a car.  :(

Summer trips... love 'em, but they're killing my mileage goal!

I'm glad that we get 2 free "zero miles" days, though.  Plus, carpooling miles only count for half... so no more driving solo if I can help it.
