Day 6: Car-Free umpire
Sunday had us back at Montera Middle School for yet another Little League baseball game. This time, Jeff was umpiring. B wanted to come along for scouting purposes: his Osprey will play the winner of this game in the NOLL AA championship game on Sat 6/12.
Travel-wise, this was a simpler but longer day than Saturday. J+B walked up to downtown, then took the #1 & #18 to the field. We made the mistake of trying to take a shortcut up the hill to the school and ended up knee-deep in nettles instead. Jeff discovered that umpiring behind the plate means two hours of squats: my thighs are killing me a day later!
N and a friend had a “playdate” on Sunday. Not to be outdone, they decided to come to the game too, but only after biking to the Berkeley Bowl and back for groceries. They took more efficient bus routes to the game (#88 & #18). Still a long route, but only scheduled to be 72 minutes of travel time instead of the nearly two hours it took J+B (some of which, admittedly, was due to the nettles excursion).
Total day = 77.4 public transit miles, 9.6 on foot, and 8.4 by bike. Car miles? Zero, again.
