To the Farmer's market without a car

One of my favorite weekend activities is going to the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning.  There is a really awesome coffee cart and one of the best bakeries I have found in the area.  It has long been my routine to go on a bike ride, come home, shower and then head to the Farmer's market (via car) for breakfast and some yummy local food.
So, in honor of the car-free challenge, I decided why not combine my ride with my trip to the farmer's market?  I have to go up a pretty steep hill, but I usually go on a hilly ride on Saturdays anyway.  I figured out a back way to get to the market and I took a big backpack to put the food in.
It went very well - the hill was not even that bad and I was able to easily fit everything I bought into my backpack and nothing got squished.  I think this car-free alternative could definitely work in the future.

Yay for consolidating

Yay for consolidating activities!!!! That's what I love about walking. I get a lot of my car-free exercise while commuting on foot to/from places I need to go to! And congrats on your donations!! How did you exceed your goal by so much!!?? And it's only halfway through the month! Teach me how to do that!! ;)

Thanks, I just sent out

Thanks, I just sent out emails to everyone I knew who I though might be willing to support me in reaching my goal.  Relatives (parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles) are always a good bet.  Good luck with your fundraising, you are 75% of the way there!

Good for you! I'm really

Good for you! I'm really impressed - that hill is pretty darn steep. I always drive to that farmer's market too, usually over highway 92, so I don't even know of a bike- or pedestrian-friendly option for getting there (and I don't bike anyway, so not an option for me). The good news is I'm also finding some alternatives that might work in the future. The Burlingame farmer's market on Sunday is right next to my walking-distance Sunday morning yoga class and, although it's nowhere near as nice as the San Mateo one, it's acceptable. The problem with Sunday morning is that I usually like to do a lot of cooking on Saturday. Solution: a stop at the San Francisco Crocker Galleria farmer's market on Thursday at lunchtime to pick up the veggies I need to cook with, then to the Burlingame one for fruit for the week!
