Regional Coalition Platform

About the Platform

TransForm's regional coalition developed and maintains a platform outlining a shared vision for the Bay Area and long-term strategies to achieve it.

All organizations that are members of TransForm's coalition are signed on in support of the principles and broad action items in the platform. However, this does not mean that member organizations support particular initiatives or policy recommendations just by signing onto this platform.

Regional Coalition Platform

The Bay Area has outstanding beauty, a dynamic economy, and incredible opportunities. However, poorly planned, sprawling development in the Bay Area poses a threat to our quality of life and our environment.

The member organizations of TransForm's regional coalition believe that current development patterns and projections for the future do not have to be our destiny. The Bay Area can retain its environment and quality of life, while ensuring that all residents have access to economic opportunities, by:

This platform lays out actions to implement these principles. The member organizations of TransForm's regional coalition promote the platform through a broad range of activities: policy analysis and recommendations, public education, and grassroots action. We are campaigning together for smart growth, affordable housing, a better Regional Transportation Plan, transportation justice, and bicycle and pedestrian access.

Develop a World-Class Public Transportation System

Campaign for county and regional plans that support world-class public transportation for the Bay Area

Promote active living with a walkable and bicycle-friendly Bay Area

Support transportation pricing that promotes sustainability and equity

Innovative pricing of transportation can raise revenues to create a system that is more fair and efficient for all residents. TransForm's regional coalition will analyze the costs and benefits of all pricing proposals and support those that offer net benefits for transit riders, including low-income communities.

Create Great Communities that Protect the Environment, Advance Social Equity, and Improve Our Quality of Life

Increase incentives and funding for transit-oriented development and affordable housing

Promote efficient and coordinated planning for land use, transportation and air quality management

Preserve open space and limit suburban expansion

Promote Transportation Justice

Make significant new investments in communities that rely on public transit

Allocate transportation investments to reduce income and racial disparities

Help low-income communities increase their power to influence transportation and land use decisions
