In June 2019, TransForm staff, alumni, and friends will cycle the incredible Central Coast of California with Climate Ride. Interested in joining us? We recommend signing up by mid-March, as the ride is filling up!
Our team will be riding as “Rachel’s Carbon Crushers” in memory of our dearly departed colleague, Rachel Davidman. Rachel worked at TransForm for eight years as Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools Education Program Manager. Whether you knew Rachel or not, all are welcome to join our team in celebration of her vibrant spirit and passion for our planet. We're also remembering Deb Hubsmith on this ride, a Safe Routes to School pioneer and long-time TransForm board member.
The ride: This gorgeous charitable cycling tour begins in Santa Cruz and travels along California's magnificent Central Coast visiting Monterey, Big Sur, San Simeon, and Morro Bay. With miles of world-renown cycling, crashing surf, endless vistas, and friendly towns along the way, this ride is unforgettable. There are various mileage options each day to suit all types of cyclists, and participants can also use e-bikes to help them up the hills. We'll be riding along with teams benefiting Climate One, the SF Bike Coalition, Bike East Bay, the Silicon Valley Bike Coalition, GRID Alternatives, and other great organizations.
Our team: Check out the roster for Rachel's Carbon Crushers, including TransForm's outgoing ED, Stuart Cohen, and our New Mobility Policy Director, Clarrissa Cabansagan. Our team captain is Rosie Mesterhazy, a TransForm alum who is now the Safe Routes to Schools Coordinator at the City of Palo Alto. Rachel's brother Larry and Safe Routes to Schools friends from around the Bay Area will be riding with us.
Fundraising: Climate Ride participants commit to raising at least $3,000, which goes to one or more qualified beneficiaries for their ride... that's TransForm! Climate Ride also receives a portion of funds raised to continue their great work. Climate Ride, TransForm, and your teammates will provide plenty of support for your fundraising effort — it is totally doable, and if you're at all uncomfortable with asking for money this is a great way to hone that important skill. Check out Climate Ride's tips for how to meet your fundraising goals.
We recorded an info session for potential participants with Climate Ride staff and several members of the Carbon Crushers team. Watch or listen to the call here to learn more about this opportunity (start about 6 mins 45 seconds in). If you have any questions, contact Team Captain Rosie Mesterhazy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
