TransForm is turning 20 this year...which means we've got 20 years of stories to tell!
From now until our birthday bash on November 1, we'll be releasing two exclusive audio episodes each month. Tune in and you'll hear from a few of the people who have helped make TransForm and our work possible over the last two decades.
BACK TO SCHOOL WITH AB 17
As students head back to school this fall, the bill that would help them get there is on its way to the Senate floor. AB 17 would give California public school students free and discount transit passes, saving them and their families money to spend on other important things (like textbooks, rent, groceries, and tuition). It is critical that you email or call your Senator today and tell them to vote YES on AB 17!
TRANSFORM BY THE NUMBERS
Did you know that in 2016, TransForm helped win $6.75 billion for public transportation? Or that our Safe Routes to Schools team helped 20,081 kids participate in Walk to School Day? How about the nearly 6,000 metric tons of carbon pollution being spared from our air thanks to GreenTRIP certified buildings? Check out the work behind these numbers, more awesome stats, and gorgeous photos in our new annual report.
BRIDGE TOLLS INCREASE SHOULD ALSO INCREASE EQUITY
Bay Area leaders have proposed increasing bridge tolls and using the money to fight traffic congestion, but their current plan lacks meaningful benefits for low-income travelers who would be hurt the most by a toll increase. We're pushing our state leaders to change the plan to include real equity provisions, like funding to improve the Clipper program with income-based fares, enough money for AC Transit and BART to improve transbay service, and investments in safer ways to get to public transportation. Not only will these changes make the plan more fair, they're also effective strategies for easing traffic on our bridges, which is the whole point!
