The California Transportation Commission (or CTC) is a powerful decision-making body with great authority over statewide transportation policy and funding. Currently, the CTC has no requirements for expertise in transportation, nor any requirement to include members who represent vulnerable communities. We believe the CTC should reflect the diversity of our state, especially communities disproportionately burdened by air pollution from transportation.
AB 179 would require that at least one appointed commissioner have expertise with environmental justice and disadvantaged communities. It would also require better coordination with the California Air Resources Board. This bill is part of the Transportation Equity Package we are sponsoring along with many partner organizations.
