Car-Free Week happens the week before I bike to Los Angeles as part of the AIDS Lifecycle, and I can't think of a better way to kick off that week then to spend the week on my bike and on foot, enjoying the place where I live and play.  I would have aimed for 0 miles, but I have to drive to the Cow Palace on Sunday, June 6 at 5:30 AM to depart for Los Angeles!  So those are my seven miles.

As for why I'm taking the challenge - I like to remind myself that I don't need to ever be in a car to have a full and happy life in San Francisco.  I'm even going to abstain from casual carpool this week and acquaint myself with the buses, ferry and bike van options that abound as commuter options from the East Bay to San Francisco.
