Bay Area Elected Officials
By taking the Car Free Challenge we are showing that we want to better understand the challenges of driving less or not driving at all. For some of us, driving is a choice, for many driving is not an affordable option. We also know that we need to walk (or bike and transit) the talk.
We all aim to learn first hand the nature of these challenges, while sharing with you the pains and the gains.
Biking the Bridges
This past Sunday Wiley, my husband, and I rode the first "Bike the Bridges" event organized by El Cerrito's Police Department as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics.

As pledged, want to reduce
As pledged, want to reduce car miles so:
Monday June 1:
Carpooled into work 11/2 = 5 miles saved
Walked from office to City Hall for City Council Meeting = 1.25 miles
Carpooled back home at midnight from Council meeting 12/2 = 6 miles
Tuesday June 2:
Carpooled to Sacramento for the League of CA Cities Legislative Day
220/2 = 110 miles
Walked from Convention Center area to and from Capitol + to various locations around
the Capitol = 1 mile
Good exercise to boot!

Thursday June 3,
Carpooled to and from work = 22/2 = 11 miles
Lunch carpooled 5/2 = 2.5
Then met with a constituent and walked back to my office = 1 mile
Friday, June 4th
Carpooled to Meeting that encompassed site visits to Danville, Walnut Creek, Emeryville
and back = 88.8 miles/2 = 44.4 miles!
While I did not have an opportunity to use alternate transportation this week, the total miles
saved by walking and carpooling = 182.15 Miles! : )
