Jeannette Cooper

Safe Routes to Schools Program Specialist

Jeannette is a program specialist for the Safe Routes to Schools Program in K-8 schools in the Berkeley, Oakland, Newark and San Leandro Unified School Districts. Jeannette enjoys working with communities at the grassroots level to encourage safe, fun and healthy behavior that is environmentally-friendly.

Jeannette is new to the Bay Area and loves developing new relationships and learning about the diverse communities she serves. Prior to living here, she lived in Santa Monica for several years, but was born and raised in Chicagoland. Jeannette holds a Masters Degree from the University of Chicago in Social Sciences, undergraduate degrees in Environmental Policy and Anthropology, and is a Certified Gardener and Holistic Health Coach.

Jeannette’s personal and professional goals are to help people (especially youth and herself) get closer to and more in balance with nature in all its manifestations. She has done this work in Chicago, Santa Monica and here in the Bay by teaching environmental and social justice education, gardening and anthropology to students of all ages. Jeannette loves to hike, travel, write, garden, and spend time with her amazing husband, three wonderful stepchildren and sweet-souled superdog.
