The San Joaquin Valley faces significant challenges. Poor land use decisions have led to increased urbanization of farmland and wildlife habitats, which is accelerating sprawl development. The lack of parks and safe open spaces limit physical activity. Pollution from suburban sprawl has degraded the Tuolumne River as well as other waterways in the Valley. And an influx of new residents from the Bay Area is leading to an affordability crisis for current residents. Transportation investments continue to prioritize roads and highways, leading to higher levels of smog and air pollution.

These challenges are immense, but there are solutions! Join Sequoia Riverlands Trust, Tuolumne River Trust, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Stockton, and ClimatePlan to hear how these organizations are working with partners in the San Joaquin Valley to create communities where residents have sustainable transportation choices to travel to work and school while breathing cleaner air; affordable homes with safe access to parks and open space; healthy rivers, and protection for natural and working landscapes.

The Center at Sierra Health Foundation and the San Joaquin Valley Health Fund are pleased to co-sponsor this important learning session.
